Over the last 25 years, DP Electric has become one of the largest electrical contracting companies in the Ottawa region. Over time, they have expanded their range of services to residential, commercial, and custom home clients. The existing logo had technical issues, did not provide differentiation from competing companies, and did nothing to capture what is important about the company. idApostle was hired to develop their visual identity including a new logo, and various brand assets that would enable DP Electric to communicate better with their audience.
The stationery (letterhead, envelopes, and business cards) is clean, bright, and to the point.
Before and After: The drop shadow and black lettering on red made the previous logo difficult to reproduce—and to read.
Inspiration: The logo is an abstract representation of a light switch within the initials DP. While we wanted the solution to represent energy in some way, we wanted to avoid symbols overused within the industry, or at the very least, approach it from a different perspective. (There was a ban on the use of lightning bolts and wall plugs.)
Logo: The final DP Electric logo uses simplicity both in form and in colour to capture energy/power and the quality of the work performed.
Symbol: The DP Electric symbol reproduces well in colour and in black, and is used on a variety of items including clothing and stickers.
Business card: These introduce the use of the complimentary blue colour, and the DP Electric symbol as a building block for other visual elements to the visual identity. In this case, the symbol creates a building front complete with windows.
Graphics: The symbol blocks were used to create graphics for the three sectors DP Electric serves.
Deliverables: Logo, letterhead, business cards, envelopes, stickers, shirts, WordPress website (ongoing), and various graphics.
