Ché Aimee Dorval is a solo recording artist originating from Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. With the release of her third album Between the Walls and the Window, Ché asked idApostle to develop a logo and the album artwork.
Ché is an incredible songwriter, singer, and guitar player with a voice that is personal and intimate. Her music is honest, heartfelt, introspective and filled with melancholy and joy. Ché won David Foster’s (producer of Michael Bublé and Celine Dion) British Columbia Star Search competition in 2007 and went on to write her debut album Underachiever in 2008. Her second album, Volume One was released in 2014. Several songs on this, her third album Between the Walls and the Window are produced by Bob Rock (The Tragically Hip, Aerosmith, The Cult, Metallica, Bryan Adams). Ché also writes, records and tours as part of the duo Casualties of Cool with Devin Townsend.
The logo design was driven by Ché’s name and music, with the accent acting as a joyful shot of colour rising from bold and powerful typography. The album design uses a graphical approach to represent layers, walls, and windows. The front cover design points to the upper left, implying freedom and growth while the back cover points to the bottom left—a reflection of the balance of peaks and valleys representative of Ché’s music. The transparent blue areas that overlay the photographs help to communicate layers, depth and introspection.
